Position Description – Registered Nurse
Purpose:
- Contributes to the implementation of effective clinical governance systems for safe and quality resident – centered care.
- Responsible each shift for the coordination of safe and quality resident – centered care that supports residents to live the best life they can.
Mandatory Qualifications:
- Registered Nurse with current AHPRA registration with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia
Responsible to: The Clinical Manger and Facility Manager.

Main Responsibilities:
- To have knowledge of and provide services in line with the Aged Care Quality standards.
- To follow and act in accordance with the Aged Care Code of Conduct.
- Contributes to the implementation of an effective clinical governance framework for the safe and quality systems required to maintain and improve the consistence, safety, and quality of clinical care and to improve outcomes for residents.
- Leads and supports the clinical and personal care and if required activity staff on each shift to consistently deliver safe, quality resident – centered care.
- Promotes a service culture that supports residents’ health, safety and well – being and is inclusive of their identity;, culture, and diversity.
- Contributes to the efficient allocation and utilization of resources for safe and quality care.
- Appropriate allocation and delegation of care to clinical and personal care staff within their scope of practice and competence including: appropriate delegation of medication administration. Provides clear information that assists staff to complete allocated/delegated care and provides tool box training and coaching for skills
- development as needed.
- Promotes a culture of safety that empowers the clinical and personal care workforce to speak up and raise concerns and to work together to seek solutions for resident safety concerns.
- Engages with and fosters partnerships with residents and or their representative/s when conducting initial and ongoing assessments and care planning.
- Ensures supported decision making to assist residents to live the life the way they choose. This includes risk assessment and planning with informed consent to support dignity of risk.
- Resident assessment includes identifying assessing and managing risks to minimize preventable harm for each resident.
- Conducts three monthly care plan evaluation as delegated with input from the team and in partnership with the resident and or representative.
- Appropriate and timely follow up of exceptions to resident care plans in partnership with the residents and or their representative. This includes timely and appropriate referrals to other health professionals and or other services.
- Promotes an evidence – based process for defining infections and the re-inforcement of the Antimicrobial Stewardship Program for the safe and appropriate prescribing and use of antimicrobials.
- Resident deterioration is recognized, and timely and appropriate responsive action is taken when a residents health status rapidly declines.
- Monitors the areas key clinical risk and ensures escalation (both internal and external, as relevant) occurs and that appropriate response actions are taken where safety is compromised.
- Ensures timely and appropriate action in response to incidents, comments and complaints and that transparent and open communication occurs with residents when things go wrong.

Performance appraisal: at 3 months, 6 months, ten annually and as requested by employer/employee.

Knowledge & Skills:
- Maintains own knowledge and skills for safe care/services by completing annual mandatory training and competence assessments related to your role; participating in ongoing education sessions and tool-box training and reading notice boards, newsletters and memos.
- Annual training objectives are completed following performance appraisal to ensure you have the right skills and knowledge to perform your role.
