Position Description – Cleaner

Purpose:
• Contributes to a safe, clean home like living environment for consumers and work environment for staff.
Responsible to: The Facility Manager.
Main responsibilities:
• To have knowledge of and provide services in line with the Aged Care Quality standards.
• To follow and act in accordance with the Aged Care Code of Conduct.
• Cleaning tasks include but are not limited to mopping and vacuuming floors, damp dusting, waste management, restocking of supplies, collection of soiled linen and clothing as required, spills management.
• Routine and project cleaning tasks according to documented cleaning schedules
• Completion of cleaning tasks according to infection prevention and control and health and safety requirements including the safe storage and use of cleaning chemicals
• Recording of the completion of cleaning tasks.
Performance appraisal: at 3 months, 6 months, then annually and as requested by employer/ employee.
Knowledge & Skills:
• Maintains own knowledge and skills for safe care/services by completing annual mandatory training and competency assessments related to your role, participating in ongoing education sessions and tool-box training and reading notice boards, newsletters and memos.
• Annual training objectives are completed following performance appraisal to ensure you have the right skills and knowledge to perform your role.
• Participates in relevant professional and network groups (recommendation only).
Cleaning Practices
• Cleaning tasks are completed according to routine and project cleaning schedules.
• Cleaning tasks are completed according to infection prevention and control and health and safety requirements including the safe storage and use of cleaning chemicals.
• Adequate supplies (e.g., toilet paper, sanitiser, soap) are available for consumer and staff use.
• The completion of cleaning tasks is evident through the record of completion, the visual cleanliness and tidiness of the facility, consumer and staff feedback and the results of cleaning audits and environmental inspections.
